E.S. Wochensky Biography

E. S. Wochensky began his filmmaking career with a series of “folk films” documenting the rural culture of Western New York. His first project as director captured the participants of a school bus demolition derby. “Just Like Golf (2001),” screened at festivals across the country including the New York Underground Film Fest and won the "Festival Director Award" at the Magnolia Film Festival and "Best Short" at the Boston Chlotrudis Awards. Selected scenes aired nationally on the Travel Channel and MTV2.

In 2005, Wochensky completed “Shoot the Moon,” a documentary on the culture of a traditional livestock and junk auction. It again won awards at several festivals and led him to be called "one of America's most talented and perceptive rural filmmakers" (Ozarks Regional Magazine). It was funded in part by New York State Council on the Arts, the Puffin Foundation and the Niagara Arts Council. Wochensky released this and other short subject documentaries on the DVD “Shoot the Moon and Other Folk Films.”

He has done freelance camera and audio work on projects for CBS, ABC, Discovery Channel, Court TV, America's Most Wanted, Travel Channel, Fox News Commercials and more. His past experience includes work as a lighting technician, sound engineer and bass player where he picked up the moniker "Colonel." He is an avid organic garlic grower and lives in Springville, NY. He recently completed “Shiner,” his first fiction short.
